XPS 8940, U2723QE, audio not working

I just got the Dell Ultrasharp monitor U2723QE and connected it to my Dell XPS 8940. For some reason, it kills the audio in the computer?  I went back to the old monitor and the audio works fine. But when I reconnect the U2723QE, the audio is gone. Is there some switch or connection I'm missing? The instructions aren't very clear on how to connect everything.

I'm unable to call tech support as I am speech impaired due to laryngectomy.

Thank you for your help.

To receive assistance from Dell Chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Service Tags for the U2723QE and the XPS 8940.

The U2723QE has built-in audio pass through via the PC USB-C, DP, or HDMI.

But, you have to connect external powered speakers to the U2723QE  #7 Audio line-out port. Then right click the Speakers icon on the right Task Bar, click "Open Sound settings", then under output device choose the U2723QE as the default Audio device.

If you do not have external powered speakers connected to the U2723QE  #7 Audio line-out port, then right click the Speakers icon on the right Task Bar, click "Open Sound settings", then under output device choose the the XPS 8940 Realtek Audio as the default Audio device.

There is no audio out port on this monitor, not that I'm able to find. The only ports I see are the HDMI, USBs, and ethernet. Is there a diagram of all the ports available for this monitor?

P.S. I tried chat several times before posting here. It's always "unavailable".

On second look, I did find the audio port and got the speakers to work.

Question though, is there any advantage to using the port out of the monitor rather than the one on the computer?

Thank you.

* No. They both perform the same function.
