Cloning from one pool to another fails
Hi All,
I need to clone plenty of savesets from one pool to another on a physical tape library.
I created some files with savesets in it and I executed several nsrclone processes.
Some of the nsrclone commands come bach with:
Obtaining media database information on server
159092:nsrclone: Unable to build/verify save set list from the following ssid(s)
.
.
.
list of savesets
.
.
.
No complete save sets to clone
159091:nsrclone: No complete save sets to clone
What does this mean? Do I have a chance to clone these savesets into the new pool.
So far I am missing appr. 100 savesets in the new pool.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Jan

Don't you think it would be useful to provide at least a minimum of helpful information, like ...
- NW server OS
- NW version
- the nsrclone command
So far I suspect that you have a bunch of spawned save sets which are of course not completely stored on tape.

And there we go ...
sumflags' field 'N' indicates an NDMP backup which has its specific command 'nsrndmp_clone'
So you have mixed up NDMP with standard backups in the same pool. Possible, but as you can see - not the best idea.

I don't know what you wanna say with this last answers.
When I use the nsrndmp_clone command I get the sames error message.
I also don't see a reason why one should not mix NDMP backups with other backups in one pool.
But thanks so far.
Can anyone help me out here?

My NetWorker version is 8.2.4.5 which runs on a SLES 11.3
I use this nsrclone command:
nsrclone -v -s -d -C 1 -b -S -f
A mminfo on a savesets which can not be cloned provides this:
mminfo -avot -q ssid=1044619208
volume type date time size ssid fl lvl
P50081 LTO Ultrium-6 05/01/15 17:46:35 25 GB 1044619208 cENs full

As you see - you can mix them. But you have always remember that you have 2 type of save sets here which are not 100% compatible. What you just proved bu
In your case you must separate the objects and apply the appropriate command:
- use mminfo to report all 'standard' save sets and store those in file_1
- use mminfo to report all 'NDMP' save sets and store those in file_2
- run nsrclone for the one in file_1
- run nsrndmp_clone for those one in file_2

Correct thing to say is that DSA based NDMP backups can coexist with other backups - otherwise it is not supported.
As for error, it might be what it says - that no complete ssid is on tape. As of some version of NW, when you run nsrclone it will only be applicable to ssids which are complete on that tape or which have head on it. Tail (and eventual any middle) will be ignored. Top of the head, I believe sumflags shows you that.

OK - you are using NDMP and wrap the data with DSA (that's what the 's' indicates) which in fact makes the SS usable by nsrclone.
In this case find out why NW thinks it has to deal with incomplete SSs.
This might be if some were continued on another tape and if you deleted/relabled one of these volumes, parts will be left behind on the other one.
Unfortunately, the only SS you stated seems to be completely stored on one tape only (as indicated by the 'c').
Worst case, open a case with support.

All of my savesets are NDMP-Backups. But the nsrndmp_clone command bring the same error message.

Ok, I see.
But the man page clearly states that savesets which are spread over several tapes/volumes will be cloned completely.
I'm gonna open a case with EMC.
Thanks for the replies.

Correct, but there is also somewhere statement which says that when you feed ssid list only those complete or starting on certain volume will be taken into account. In your case, to be honest, that should not matter since you feed ssid list and not volume name thus you identify ssid. I would suggest to inspect those ssids by checking ssflags, sumflags and clflags to get full picture of the status of that ssid which fails to clone. Do you use ssid or ssid/cloneid pair in your CLI?

Way too much noise
... and not enough evidence or facts.
I see the following details:
According to man page: "The nsrclone program can also be used to clone NDMP save sets... where the save set’s flags have ’N’ and ’s’". Therefore, the above saveset should qualify.
Lets see some specific details here so that we can see what is the actual error and then give you an opinion on what may be the failure. Please test the cloning process by selecting one saveset that failed, and run the following (I used the ssid that you provided)
nsrclone -v -s (nw-server) -J (recover storage node) -d (save storage node) -C 1 -b (clone pool) -S 1044619208
If that works, then pick another one that you know failed. If it fails, then lets see what the actual messages are.

Your line is missing -s in front of the server name..

Hi All,
I tried to clone single SSIDs with the nsrclone command above with no success. I get the same error message:
nsrclone: No complete save sets to clone
I have no idea what I can do to get all saveset from my tapes. The retention is 24 months and I really don't wanna wait so long ;-).

nsrclone: No complete save sets to clone... implies that the saveset is incomplete.
Did you use the nsrclone command? Please show what command you used, as well as the output.
Also, please show the output of the following:
mminfo -avot -q ssid=ssid#
where ssid# is the saveset that you are trying to clone.
