Compression Ratio

I am using LTO-3 tape drive in a Windows based environment. When I back up online Lotus data, the tape utilization goes upto 585 GB but when I backup file servers, the tape utilization goes only upto 460-470 GB.

Is there any specific reason for this? Can I increase the tape utilization capacity for File sevrers? I am using NW 7.3.4 and "NT with compression Directives" in both cases. I see this detail under Media->Volume.

Please suggest.

Unless you wish to avoid network traffic (on expense of CPU) it would be better to use HW compression.

AFAIK for both FS and DB you would use same algorithm within NW thus this is just how much it gets compressed using such approach. Nothing wrong there.
