Networker 7.4.4 issue with tape LTO4
Hello,
I have Networker 7.4.4 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 with IBM TS3310 - 6 drives LTO4.
I have a problem with the clonning and stagging of my Data on LTO4 tape. The tapes are filled with too much data and that will give me issue with positioning and read error on the tapes.
I have some tape with over 5 or 6 TB on it!
Someone has seen this type of problem?

Hello,
Amount of data should not be problem itselve, depend on data type you are writing to tape, check daemon.log for exact errors… I would generally suggest to use driver from tape vendor, and if it didn’t help, try to disable CDI. Othervise it looks like some HW problem.

Compare Totalbytes colum to modsend culum, it will give you dedupe ratio.

Tape performance does not decrease with the amount of data stored.
Backup and recovery times may be prolonged due to compression/decompression sequences that cause an inherent delay on the backup server/storage node.
Let us know if you have multiplexing enabled in your environment as that leads to shoe-shining of the tape and causes a notable increase in backup windows.

Hey Luc,
Could you please explain in more detail the exact issue you are facing?
Are you getting any error message? If so could you please attach some in here?
Have you checked the Application and System event logs of NetWorker server? If there is any SCSI reset you will find events in there.
As others said before, the amount of data stored on the tape shouldn't really matter, although it's true that it will have a direct impact in recover process, and any other process that requires read the tape, however this should only impact on the time whatever operation that requires reading the tape, it should not end up with any failure or error.
Have you tried manual clone/staging?
Thank you.
Carlos.
