PC5324 IGMP Snooping & Windows NLB Cluster

 Hi,

I'm installing Windows NLB Cluster, using Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, in multicast mode with IGMP multicast support (PAY ATTENTION TO THIS). All cluster servers are connected to 2 PC5324 switches. Now everything has been done and it seems that the NLB cluster works well. The configuration details is attached below:

 ***Network topology***
 1. 2 PC5324 Switches are connected with 2 cat5e cables, I configured the two connections in a LAG group. This LAG is configured working in Trunk mode.
 2. One server, which is a member of the NLB cluster, is connected to #2 port on one 5324 switch, another server, which is also a member of the NLB cluster, is connected to #2 port on another 5324 switch.

 ***Configurations (on both switches)***
 1. Enable Bridge Multicast Filtering (Global).
 2. Enable IGMP Snooping (Global).
 3. Enable IGMP Snooping (VLAN 1) because all the NLB Cluster nodes are connect to the VLAN 1.

 Here are my questions:

 1. I want to verify if the switches really forwards IGMP packets to the appropriate ports only. How can I do that? Are there any commands I can run on the switches to see if it's working like what I expected? Following is the detailed information.

 2. I executed "show ip igmp snooping groups" command and got the result on BOTH switches.

 Vlan IP Address Querier Ports
------ ------------------------ ------- ------
1 224-239.255|127.1.3 No g2

However, when I executed "show bridge address-table" commands, I couldn't see the multicast MAC address of the cluster in the list, why? Is it supposed to be right?

 3. What's the relationship between Bridge Multicast Filter and IGMP Snooping? What if I only enable IGMP Snooping and disable Bridge Multicast Filter?

 4. I have no multicast router in the topology, I heard PC5324 doesn't support IGMP querier, does that mean I need to add a querier into the topology to allow IGMP Snooping function? I don't know if the Windows 2003 NLB cluster node can be a querier or not.

If you need to know more information, let me know and I will provide.

 Thanks very much in advance,
 James

After digging out some more information on Internet, I learnt something so basically I can answer my question #3, the answer is: you cannot just enable IGMP Snooping without enabling Bridge Multicast Filter.

However, I still need answers to No. 1, 2, 4. Especially No. 1, I don't want to write multicast server/client programs to test the correctness of IGMP packets flooding.
