Powerconnect 6224 reset
Hello,
I recently purchased a used Powerconnect 6224 and have not been able to log in to configure it. It took some sleuthing, but I was able to find the IP address. Telnet and the web GUI are up, but ask for a username and password, neither of which were provided when I purchased it. I have tried using the serial console, but the prior owner seems to have disabled it for some strange reason. It doesn't do anything on any computer/serial port I connect it to. I've followed the serial specs from the manual, but nothing works. Expecting it to at least show a POST type screen on boot, I've rebooted it with a serial console already open but nothing comes up on the screen at all. I've cracked open the case, looking for a battery to remove or a jumper to short to reset it to factory defaults and nothing jumped out at me. I'm stumped at this point. Does anyone have a backdoor username/password or another way for me to reset this switch to factory defaults without using the serial port? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Make sure your serial port on your PC is set to: 9600, 8, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control.
Make sure you are using a NULL modem serial cable.
If you have these correct, then on power-up, you should be able to see output on the serial port from the boot code. When you do, you will see the output pause with a menu that allows you to choose the "boot menu", choose it. The boot menu will have a choice for resetting the switch to factory defaults.

I used those settings and the correct cord type, but no dice.

I had this issue. I used the DB9 LED tester to evaluate the communication. The RXD Led would wink on boot up but did not go red/green. Just could see data flowing. I pulled the board out of the case. No Batt that I could see. On the bottom of the board near where the serial is connected is a small chip. I ordered some of these and changed it out (really I had someone do it for me) and now I have red/green and data on the computer with 9600 & a Null cable. It was about to go to the electronic scrap yard. Mouser Electronics ADM3202ARUZ. Not expensive but real small. I did have two of the 6224's with one dead and one good. Use Putty with serial to communicate with the switch.
