Strict Priority Configuration

Hello folks,

I need help setting up strict priority configuration on per port basis. Basically i want to have two traffic classes with class-1 having strictly high priority over class-2. The dscp value of data packets will determine the respective queue on an outgoing port. I am completely new here. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. The switch model is Dell S4048. I would really appreciate you helping me setup priority queue on per port basis. Thank you.

Would you please  go through the link which provides configuration?

Hi Young E,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the link was not helpful. At best it explains how to create class maps. It does not explain anything about how to assign a dscp based class map to a specific queue on an interface. Any other link with a detailed example would be super helpful. A bit of context for a better suggestion: I have two types of traffic coming from multiple interface destined for a single server. Based on the dscp value of incoming packets, i want to classify the packets in two different queues (high priority queue, and a low priority queue) on the outgoing link.

Thank you for the help.

Hi Young E,

Unfortunately, the links were not helpful. I have gone through these links earlier. I am unable to find strict-priority command. I tried it in both the interface mode and the config mode. But the command is not available. Attaching the screenshot below. The switch model is dell-s4048.

Hmmohsin,

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

What I am seeing is that the command isn't correct you're using. What you need to do in order to enable strict-priority queuing is that you need to be in Interface mode and use the command

service-policy output policy-map-name

and enter the name for the policy map in character format (32 max).

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. The confusion is that for "service-policy output policy-map-name" what should be the "policy-map-name"? Should it just be "strict-priority"? or do i need to create a new policy-map? If I need to create a new policy map, how would I specify strict-priority over there? Thanks

You would need to create a policy map, and the pages in the guide for policy maps should help, and can be found here.
