1184 router

For some reason late last night and continuing to this morning my router decides to "not read" or keeps disconnecting from my modem.  My network is all hardwired.  And every 5 minutes or so my router icon says im not connected to the interent, even thought my cable modem is still working and all the lights on my modem/router on green and active.  I also updated my firmware and that didn't help. (All yesterday I was downloading/uploading a lot, could this be the problem? even though I do it all the time)

Also, when it disconnected I went on my other pc and my router picked it up and that it was working but that had no internet ethier. (It's not wireless, its hardwired)

Another thing, I am on right now becuase I took the router out of the equation and the modem is directly hooked up to my PC.. and it works fine.

That's it.  I'm sick of this router and the problems I have with it now and I had in the past.  I'm calling dell and either getting a new one, that hopefully ISN'T a fualty P.O.C.  -P.S. If you happen to have a solution please tell me.
