1390 WLAN version A17 and Hibernation

I installed the most recent (A17) 1390 WLAN utility/driver from the Dell site on my Inspiron 1505. After a successful installation the wireless would not reconnect to the wireless network properly (it would connect but have no Internet access) after returning from hibernation. Manually disconnecting and reconnecting solves that problem but it's annoying having to manually reconnect each time.

I used system restore to go back to A14 and all works fine now.

So is there some setting that needs to be set to allow A17 to reconnect properly after hibernate? I'd like to have the latest version of the utility/driver as long as I can get it to work properly.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  If you insist on breaking it with the newer driver, try disabling all of the Power Management settings on the wireless card in the Device Manger Properties for the card.

Installing new drivers usually improves performance. While your comments have some value--"If it ain't broke don't fix it."--typically new drivers improve compatibility and performance. I'm just saying that one normally not need to avoid installing new drivers.

Regarding your suggestion to disable the power management--while this solved the same problem on my 1525 it had no effect on the 1505 with this driver. It still defaults to "Local Only" access (no Internet) when it returns from hibernation.

In a perfect world, new drivers would fix problems.  Unfortunately, the manufacturer's of computer device and software do not live in a perfect world.  If an older version of the driver works and the new one doesn't, the answer is obvious.  Sorry I can't help you.
