1394 net adapter
I have a inspiron 5100 and a dimenson 3000 which I used a belkon router (non wireless). Yesterday I purchased a linksys wireless b router to set up a wireless (in home) connection. Using linksys netcheck program it claims I do not have a wireless adapter? I checked on the Dell forum and it stated to disable the firewall which I did. Rerunning the netcheck from linksys it said I still do not have a wireless adapter? Am I wrong in assuming that the 1394 net adapter (built in to system) is the correct adapter, or do I need to purchase a different adapter? Thanks Rick M.

The 1394 adapter is a firewire adapter. It is not a wireless network adapter, but is used to make a wired connection with a firewire hard drive or digital video camera, among other things. Unless you ordered your computer with the wireless network adapter option, you probably do not have a wireless network adapter. You can check by opening the MiniPCI door on the bottom of your computer to see if there is a wireless network card installed there.
