2 ethernet adapters?

Hi. Last week my (cable) was down and my isp came to fix it. Since then I have been having trouble connecting through specific ports. I have 2 computers networked (this one, 98se, the other, XP) through a Linksys WRT54G. The XP computer has no trouble with the ports.

The only thing i have noticed any difference in (forwarded ports are the same, ips are the same) is when I run ipconfig on this computer it lists 2 adapters:

0 Ethernet adapter:
IP address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: (blank)

Followed by:

1 Ethernet adapter (etc, etc) which lists the correct numbers. I do not recall having 2 adapters listed before the cable went down (my XP comp lists only 1), and if this in fact my source of trouble, how does one change this. I thought of uninstalling the ethernet card, but was unsure if it would get rid of both.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know this is the Dimension forum but is your system a laptop?

No, both are desktops. This one is a Dimension XPS T600r (4 or 5 years old now).

Is one of these showing up as a 1394 Adapter?  If so, this is nothing more than a Firewire card and is not generally considered a networking adapter.
