2 modems installed on one PC?

My pc has an internal soft modem. I have an external hardware modem I wanted to try. I didn't want to have to un-install the soft modem, until I am sure I want to keep the external modem.

MUST I un-install the internal modem, before I try to install the external modem? Or, can I have 2 modems installed (like with 2 printers) and just point my connection to use the one I choose? In other words, I just want to stick the external on to see if it is that much better and I hate to go through the hassle of removing the internal modem first. (Dimension 8300/XP Home)

Thanks.

You can have more than one modem.  Just go into Device Manager and disable the software-based modem.  Reboot and add the external modem.  Most external modems are hardware based and should blow-the-door off of that junk winmodem.
