mcejsul,

To change the connection to a secure one, you'll need to enable either WEP ("Wired Equivalent Privacy") or WPA ("Wi-Fi Protected Access") security on the router and on the wireless client. To use WPA security, a wireless encryption technique that's actually secure unlike WEP, you'll need to be running either XP Service Pack 2 on the 600M or XP Service Pack 1 plus the "wireless rollup" package from Microsoft.

Whether or not you need to make this change is your decision. Without some form of security, any wireless client within range of your router can use it.

Setting up WEP or WPA on the 2300 is described in this section of the 2300 manual.  It would also be a good idea to restrict what wireless clients can connect to the router by installing the D600's wireless MAC address in the MAC address restriction list of the router.
