You know you're right. I can't pretend that I understand it all :). The router has a blue cable connecting to the Gateway tower. Everything works perfectly now. Just need to add the XPS in the mix.
Not knowing anything whatsoever about Gateways, if it has a USB port, then you can always use a USB wireless adapter. What I don't understand about you set up is why there are any computers at all connecting to your modem. The modem should be connected to the router and all computers should connect through the router, either by wired ethernet or by wireless.
