5 network adapters

This is what is going on. I run full restore from CD's and the Op sys, CD now when I open the device manager it show 6 network adapters, I have try to Uninstall 5 of them but every time that I try a mesage com up that reed like this "failed to uninstall the device. The divice may be required to boot up the computer." my op sys. window xp home.   how can I get this unwanted network adapters  removed from my sys. any help thankyou.
