5100 Modem Driver Installation Failure

Problem: 5100 Modem/FAX
Operating System: Windows XP

When I install the driver for modem, at the end the computer show the
failure.  Until now I can not use the modem to log on internet. Try to install the modem driver software from the driver CD. But  failed every times.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You may download updated drivers from the Downloads tab (above).  Please update your user profile with the service tag for your system.  Dell offers two modems for the Inspiron 5100:

  • Conexant D480 MDC 56k v.92 modem
  • PCTel 2304WT V92 MDC Modem

If you do not know which is in your system, you can perform a hardware scan by choosing the Current Configuration link on the main support site.

If it turns out Dell snuck a Broadcom modem in, use the link in my sig below for the latest driver.

you are right. Broadcom modem is in my computer. But the diver CD only contains the conexant and  Pctel.

This showed up back in December, so you are not alone in that.  The real problem is not having the Broadcom driver on the cd, and owners not knowing to look for the Broadcom.  Glad you got it working.
