5150 Wireless Connection Unavailable

I cannot get my wireless connection to show available.

I have a 5150 with XP Professional installed. I've installed all the drivers from the Dell CD. My router is a Belkin 2.4GHz 802.11b Wireless.

Any help in resolving this problem is greatly appreciated.

Has it worked in the past or is this the first time using it?  Did you enter the network key?  Which adapter do you have?  The Dell 1300 will not work with the strongest encryption which I think is 256 bit.

Thank you for your reply.

As soon as I received the 5150, I replaced XP Home Edition with Professional, and I didn't have my wireless router at the time. So, I am not sure if it was working correctly.

I cannot find anything in my documentation about a network key. Is there more that you can tell me, or someplace that I can learn about it?

Thanks again,

Martin

I did run the software, but don't recall the key. I may have overlooked it.

The setup had me connect the base station to the computer. Did you need to do this?

Thank you,

Martin

There should be info with your base station.  When you setup your base station, if you enabled WEP security, you would have typed in a key, sort of like a password.  That key must also be entered on the PC to connect to the network.  Did you run the software to setup your base station?

Mine did not work until I setup a key in the base station and entered the key into the settings on the PC.  There is a way to connect without using the key but I never did it that way.  Log on to your base station and find the security settings and try it.

All this is foreign to me, and I really appreciate your help. Nothing that I have for the router has me doing anything with logging into it. I will do that now.

Thanks,

Martin
