600M and BROADCOM

Question

I just received 2 new 600M's on Monday 3_7_2005. I selected the 600M because it still has a serial port. Because you can not get these with just an operating system, I will format the drive and install just the OS. I then install all the applications that my technicians need in the field. I have performed this task many of times.   I have spent a day trying to get the BROADCOM network card driver to load. All other drivers have gone just fine. I even resorted to calling Dell technical and spent 2 hours with them on the phone. After removing drivers, reinstalling them and reloading the OS again thier answer is that I have 2 600M's with bad mother boards. So I will be receiving 2 new 600M's in a couple of days. For some reason I do not think this is going to help.   Has anyone else had problems loading this driver? Suggestions?   Tom   and yes i did install the chipset driver first.

that was it. i am now working. its not the 570 like everything says. thank you very much Tom

I just spent all of last night going through the same thing you are. Basically, what it came down to was that I *did not* have the Broadcom 570x Gigabit controller that is constantly mentioned on this board but rather a Broadcom 440x integrated controller. Of course I couldn't find any reference to it or anywhere to download these from the site but I just happened to have made the OS disk using Dell's tool before I wiped the machine. Out of desperation I tried the driver on it and it worked! I now (finally) have a clean device manager.

I had the same problem with mine, and spoke with Dell for hours and they hung up on me I frustrated them so much.  They obviously don't know what is in there own systems.
