633 Error

Keep getting 633 error, or Port Open error on Modem Helper.  Dimension 2350/conexant HSF modem.  Removed and reinstalled modem (physically and through Device Manager). Changed PCI ports.   Downloaded drivers from the mfg. website and with the Dell provided CD. Devie Manager displays no conflicts.  Modem is on COM 3 IRQ 16.

lyonsrc,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

Is this the only time you get that error?  Also, what operating system are you using?

No, it happens every time, even after trying to create a Dial-up connection.   I use XP home edition. The fax service worked once or twice - I noticed the error when, after a few months of not using the fax (Fax Console, an XP component), I tried to send somehting.  When I choose the"configure fax" option, it does not detect my modem.  I had also, in the past, set up a Direct Cable connection with my laptop, using the L1P1 port.  I deleted this connection to try to solve the problem, as well as removing and reinstalling the fax program. I think it is either a bad Windows update, a physically faulty modem (though DM says it is operating normally), a conflict with the DCC connection, or a Network adapter that shoudn't be running.  I also saw some newsgroups referring to a microsoft tool called RARepair.exe, but I cannot find that utility. I'm totally at a loss.

I am having the same problem as above (=Keep getting 633 error, or Port Open error on Modem Helper.  Dimension 2350/conexant HSF modem.  Removed and reinstalled modem (physically and through Device Manager)...) I used two different external modems. Same error message again and again. What else can I do?
