9300 Wireless connection issue

Hi there,

We have the Inspiron 9300.  It was working fine for a while, but now all we get when trying to use the wireless router is "Web page unavailable while offline."  Then a popup shows titled:  Dial-up connection with a choice to connect to:  Broadband Connection.  It then proceeds to look like it's trying to dial into a server.

Under the Wireless Network Connections tab the status is Connected.  We can't see our wireless network at all.  It tells us that Windows cannot configure this wireless connection.  If we have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software, etc, etc.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks.

If the .bin file downloaded successfully? It is stored on your hard drive, in whatever folder that is your default(preferred) location. Try "My Documents"? Once you find it, there is a web-utility page in your router's configuration that is for firmware updates. Just direct the router program to where the bin file is located.

Hi again,

I downloaded the .bin file to a flash drive from my PC and then copy/pasted to My Docs on the laptop.  It doesn't seem to want to open.  Not sure how to do the rest of what you suggested....

Do you know if the Intel Wireless Connection Agent is supposed to be checked in the Wireless Network Connection tab?

Also, getting mixed messages re: my connectivity.  When I go to choose a wireless connection (which is set to automatic), I see my network.  The status says Not Connected.  However, just below it says "You are currently connected to the network.  To disconnect from this network, click Disconnect."

After I click Disconnect, it reverts to Manual and asks me to Connect, which it doesn't....

Just trying anything/everything and to get more info out there....

My last question of the day!:

Is there a way to clear the laptop's "memory" of ever having been on the network and start all over????

Thanks!

Not sure specifically what you are asking in regards to "laptop memory"? However, In order to avoid "chasing our tails" with this problem, let's remedy one thing at a time, shall we? Now, in one of my earlier posts I included a link to a user guide for your router that will answer a lot of questions that you have already asked me. You need to review Chapters 3,4,5. Specifically, Chapter 5 has the info about the firmware update and how you can perform it. I'm not sure about the Intel Wireless Agent check box???

I guess I was thinking only of starting w/ a clean slate on the laptop.

I will go back over the router user guide.  Earlier, I had gotten as far as the Administration - Management tab, and the firmware info came beyond that.  I will give it a go tomorrow as my eyes are going crossed.

I appreciate your assistance....hope you don't mind if I might have more questions!?

Thank you.

Hi again,

Well, there's been progress.  I am actually emailing you from the laptop I couldn't get on the network.  However, the initial internet connection takes at least two minutes to connect, and there's been intermittent "hanging up" and the connection is extremely slow.

When I run ipconfig/all, these are my results now:

Physical address......00- etc
DHCP enabled............yes
Autoconfiguration enabled...........yes
IP address.........192. etc
Subnet mask.........255. etc
Default gateway.........192. etc
DHCP server........192. etc
DNS servers.....68. etc
.............................68. etc
Media state............media disconnected

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Forgot to mention that IE doesn't seem to want me to open more than one internet page at a time...

Okay, did you power cycle your network after updating the router's firmware?

Remove power from all components(modem, router and computers). Wait 5 mins. then power on modem. Wait 1-2 mins. then power on router. Wait another 1-2 mins. then power on computer. See if that improves things?

Do you have any third party software firewalls(Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Suite, Trend Micro)on your computer?

Yes, we have Trend Micro....

Tried the power cycle on the router/modem.  No change there, but at least still able to get on the internet w/ the laptop.  Looking into Trend Micro instructions/guidance.

Thank you for your help/suggestions.

Not familiar with Trend Micro. Most internet security programs need to be configured to the specific home network to allow for internet/network traffic. Check Trend Micro user guide for instructions and guidance in configuring your network.
