Steve, thanks again for your advice. I going with the router mainly because I don't have the experience to go with an access point, in fact, I don't even know what it looks like.  Do you know of any sites that will explain all about the various ways to protect the notebook.  :smileyvery-happy:

You could just add a wireless access point and connect to the existing router through an ethernet cable.  But, wireless access points are much more expensive than wireless routers, so the cheapest thing to do would be to replace your current router with a wireless router.  Nearly all wireless routers on the market today can accomodate up to 4 wired ethernet connections.

as far as protection goes, the router will protect you from many external (internet) threats.  the computers should be protected from internal threats so long as they don't have files shared or remote access programs enabled.  enabling WPA encryption on your new router will protect wireless traffic as well
