Address bar empty

When I click on a shortcut that opens in a new window of internet explorer the address bar is empty and the hourglass keeps on like its working... if i cut and paste the shortcut it works but its really annoying, im pretty sure this started after i downloaded the new version of MSN messenger.

 Please help....
