Administrator PW
Hi - I need some help.I have Inspiron 1420/ Vista Basic. I can't do anything without providing a PW for account ASP.NET Machine Account. I have no idea what that means or how to obtain a PW. All the PWs I have don't work. I am the only user of this laptop, and I don't have a clue. Can someone please help. I have already restored to day I received , new from Dell and that has not changed anything, still getting prompts for PW. Help!

What are you trying to do? Or more to the point, what were you doing when you first got the prompt?

The ASP.Net is acting as Administrator, and I am getting prompts for permission to proceed by providing PW for ASP.Net. How can I get PW? I can't change ADM unless I have ASP.Net PW.

What is ADM??????
I know what ASP.NET is, but what exactly is it that you are trying to do? Unless you explain more, people aren't going to be able to help.

Sorry, I'm new - computer challenged . Under user accounts, I am shown as "standard user/ PW protected. ASP.NET is shown as Administrator user with PW. I want to change ASP.NET to standard user and me to Administor. As standard user I can't do anything requiring permission from Administrator without ASP.NET PW.

you don't want to be doing anything with the ASP.NET account

Unable to perform system restore without permission from ASP.Net PW. No matter what, I still get prompts, and can't continue.

Unable to download and install without permisssion from ASP.NET via PW. Thanks. Isn't there some way, that PW can be retreived?

Hi - Thanks to all who tried to help. Found my fix at www.jimmah.com
