After I installed the recommended wireless driver

After I installed the recommended wireless driver update from Dell, everything seem to work fine, except that I loss the icon at the bottom of my desktop that looks like a light bulb and it used to come green. is this normal?

I await a response.

Thank you

You don't say which wireless driver update you installed, so its difficult to provide you with a detailed answer.  In general, you need to open the wireless utility program from the Start > Programs menu, and find the option to show the icon.

Steve,

I install the new version of the wireless driver from Dell, Like I said it is working fine, the only thing that is different is that I don't see the wireless icon that looks like a light bulb at the right hand bottom of my screen. how can I restore this icon?

When I click on the IntelPROSet/Wireless Icon, It says No supported wireless adapters available in the system. I do I ad the wireless adapter?

Go to Device Manager, expand the listing for network adapters.  Is your wireless network adapter listed there?  Again which model wireless adapter is physically installed in your computer?  Which driver update did you do (simply telling me that it was one recommended by Dell does me no good because I have no idea what Dell sent out)?

Steve,

Intel (R) PRO/Wireless3945ABG Network connection is listed in Device Manager, when I double click on it, it opens up a small window for Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection

This is what is listed in the Advanced Tab:

Band and Channel selection for ad hoc networks.

The channel selection for an ad hoc 802.11a adapter is disabled

Any recommendations?

Did you install the new driver before August 7?  The reason I ask is that other problems have been reported by some people who blindly followed some advice to install the driver.  Dell posted a new driver on August 7, and although I've suggested to those people having problems that the August 7 release may fix the problem, I have not yet heard back as to whether or not the August 7 driver solved the problem.

Yes I have installed the new driver on August 7 that Dell had posted on August 7

I await your response. I will check back later today.

Steve,

I just read in the forum that the new update or upgrade from dell, was not for me, mine is (3945) how do I undo this a put back my system the way it was before?

Read here,

Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection Driver Release Title:Network: Intel (R) PRO/Wireless Network Connection, (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, (R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.10.5.0.0 (TIC 119715), A13 Release Date:8/7/2006 Criticality:Recommended Description:Installer package for driver version 9.0.4.17 and PROSet/Wireless utility version 10.5.0.174 supporting either Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection or Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

Download the following driver installation file for the 3945:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R127811&SystemID=LATITUDE%20D820&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=9540&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=169955

Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs.  Look through the list and see if there is anything for Intel Wireless or Intel Proset.  If there is, remove it.  Then go to Device Manager, expand the listing for Network Adapters, select your wireless adapter the right click and selct Uninstall.

Reboot your computer, cancel out of the Install New Hardware Wizard if it comes up, then run the new driver file that you downloaded.  Let me know if that fixes the problem.
