It is very unclear from your message whether you want a network or you don't want a network.  If you are trying to set up a network, what kind of network are you connecting to?  Are you trying to connect to router, wireless access point, office LAN, etc?  Please take some time to compose your message so that we can understand exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish.

By the way I use a LAN connection which I have never had problems with before.

I connect through a router. I have never had a problem with it until I was helping set up a friends wireless, and trying to actively do it with them...I didnt set up a wireless connection though...But i think i accidently set up a home network... I now have a workgroup that was never there before...and all the diagnostics say everything is fine...but i have lost my connection...And I can't remove the workgroup and try to make a new LAN connection...

Does this make sense?

No, it doesn't make sense.  You have to have a work group in order to have any kind of network connection.  So, whether you remember it or not, you had a workgroup before.  If this is the only computer on the network, then it will not matter what the name of the workgroup is.  To help diagnose this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK.  In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all the hit the Enter key.  Copy the output from this command into a reply to this message (either write it down and type it in, or copy and paste it to a text file, save the text file, copy it to a CD or floppy, take it to a computer with a working internet connection, open it on that computer and copy and paste the text into a reply here).
