Does your router have wireless? And which version of windows are you using?

Generally, Windows will prefer the connection that was established first. So, if you were associated and properly connected via wireless first, and then plugged in directly via cable, you would continue to use the wireless connection. Same goes with a wired connection. Whichever was established first will be used.

Before you ask (:)), without very special software on both the router and your computer, you cannot join the two together to get a fast link.

i should clarify something for you.  if your internet is connected to your router (i presume you have a wireless broadband router), you are going through the router whether you are using wireless or hard line for internet.  so your question is really which one is taking precedence your wireless or LAN adapter.  like i said you can tell by looking next to the date and time area to the right bottom and looking at which set of screens is operating when you are surfing the net.  for me, it seems that LAN always over rides wireless.

it you see the little tv screens flashing that's the one.  although i agree that normally it will choose the first device, my experience is that LAN will take precidence over wireless.
