We have essentially the situation you describe -- on our D600.
Wireless WAS working until recently. My boss used this system to test our ten access points on campus.
Now it will not work at all.
The D600 is also having problems with the Ethernet as well.
Fortunately this system does not have such critically important use as yours.
We use the Aironet 1100's (b). Although my main area of concern has nothing to do with the AP's, it has to do with the OS not recognizing the presense of the device.
We have these 2200BG's throughout our company the only ones with this particular issue are the D610's. This is our first experience with the 610's.
As it turns out, our issue is related to the power management feature. For whatever reason, if you start up ANY of our D610's on battery power, the wireless card always comes up lame ("no supported wireless adapters available on this system"). If you reboot on AC power, the card is recognized again. I'd messed around with the various power management schemes and the only ones that seemed to start up fine on battery power, were the Quickset schemes.....Or so I thought. I felt that I'd thoroughly tested this theory out. I booted multiple times on the various Quickset schemes versus the XP power schemes. Without fail, the Quickset schemes allowed the wirless card to come up (on battery power) and the XP schemes didn't.
This morning, this theory was thrown out the window. The user of the machine I was testing with, greeted me at my desk this morning (with the issue). Even on the Quickset schemes (always on, included).
Back to the drawing board.....
I can't believe no one else is having this issue with the 610's. We have 100+ D600's (with and without the Intel Pro 2200) and aren't having this issue. Although the ARE afflicted with the connectivity issues that have been widely discussed.
I had similar problem a few months ago. I sent email to support at Intel and really didn't get much help. I resolved the issue by purchasing 2 new Linksys WAP54G access points. I am not a fan of the Proset software at ANY level\version. From what I have found on other boards, is that the 2200 card keeps people busy with troubleshooting and support calls.

Were you running older Linksys WAP54G access points prior to purchasing new ones? I am having an issue with the D610 using the 2200bg wireless card when connecting to our secured wireless connection which is using WPA-Pre Shared Key over a WAP54G access point. We have a second WAP54G that is wide open on a seperate T-1 and that is not a problem. This issue is not a problem on my D600 with the 2200bg wireless card (upgraded from the 2100b). Just wondering if they made hardware changes in the access points to be a little more friendly with the latest version of Centrino chipsets.

What is the brand and model of your access point(s)?
We use Cisco Aironet 1100 b / g (as I understand)
