another wireless "connection" w/ no internet access
Hi,
I have a problem similar to other people's mentioned on this site: the wireless card indicates a signal is present, however the computer does not connect to the internet. I've tried the several things mentioned in other threads (changing the rate and so forth) to no avail. The signals are not my own: my apartment evidently receives 3 different network signals. The card worked at first for all networks, then I took the computer to work and it connected to another network, and upon bringing it back home it no longer works, so it seems maybe some setting changed when it found the work networks or something. Clearly I have no good ideas... so any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks for the response, I think maybe I wasn't clear though about my setup - the wireless signal is not owned by me at all - I frankly have no idea from where these signals originate. So I have to use no data encryption, because I don't know the network key etc. I tried the things you mentioned that I could nonetheless but they didn't seem to work. One might just say it's not my network so it's no wonder I can't get it to work - but as I mentioned it has in fact worked in the recent past...
