Thanks. I am not on-line when it try the flash or control center.
Also the USR is almost impossible to use, compared to my OEM Conexant Soft Modem. I was hoping the USR update would make it usable. I'm starting to think that the USR modem is shot. And it's just over a year old. It takes several tries to get a connection, the connecting speed is very slow and it drops the connection every 5 minutes. The Conexant is much better.
I know I have to be offline for the control center to reconize the modem My updates work fine How do you get it to run at V90/92 or does it automatic. Also the call waiting program that came with it dont work it says no modem present. Ive had the modem for about a year when I first got it it worked great had good speed (33 to 43 kbps) now its around 20 to 24. I am ready to try something else.
Sounds like you've performed a bad flash on the modem. Why go thru the complication of an external modem when a PCI hardware-based modem will do a much better job? Keep it simple.

Blinking lights? :-)
I installed a USR Model 5699b a week ago and had same problems as you. I called USR tech support and they suggested I remove the Control Center from ad/remove list. They said CC wont work (or without problems) when IE SP 1 is installed. I did remove it and all else works fine. I like the option to take or ignore a call while online.
