Apologies for a really stupid question, but

My Dell Precision M4500 does not recognise any communications hardware.  I have to use another laptop to even ask this question. I have two basic problems:

a) My starting point is that I do not know which way the Wireless switch on the Right hand side of the machine has to be set - if I set it to towards the back of the machine, there is a Red Indicator showing.  If I set it totowards the front of the machine,  the switch covers over the Red Indicator.   Clearly, the Red Indicator could mean a Warning that the Wireless capability is OFF, or it could mean that the Wireless "connection" is live/ON.

Does the fact of seeing the Red indicator mean that the Wireless switch is set to ON, or does it mean that it is set to OFF?

b) For some reason the machine has not installed drivers for Broadcom USH, Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, of Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controler.  I do not know which comes first - loading up & installing these drivers (and in what order?), or getting the Wireless switch set up Left or Right (whichever is correct for ON).

I could not work my way through the multiple choice methods of contacting Dell Support by email to resolve this problem and it seems that it would be a long-distance call from the UK to the US to call them (even though my machine is still IN warranty), so I thought I would ask for some friendly help from the Forum.

Many thanks in advance

Justin Roseland,

Switch on side, if you can see red, the wireless adapter(some also use bluetooth) is turned off.

Did you recently reinstall the operating system?

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
