Aztech mdp 3900 V-W modem problem s with Window XP

Hi every body
I am using the Aztech MDP3900V-W Modem & phone tools which was shipped with my Dell computer Dimension XPS B733r, It was working well on the operating system Wind 98Se
the problems started when I upgraded to Wind XP pro, before doing so, I checked the Aztech website for drivers, & it is mentioned that Wind XP has inbuilt driver (detected as "Dell Data Fax Modem") will detect and install the hardware driver automatically without user intervention. I contacted the BVRP for the phone tools & they kindly sent me the drivers needed to support WindXP
But after all, the modem is not detected by the computer & on opening classic phone tools, then configure, general configuration, & the communication tab, change Modem, a wizard appears, & in the list of the modems there is Aztech MDP 3900V Modem I chose this one ( though the actual on in my computer is Aztech MDP 3900 V-W, so I do not know if these are the same, as on the list of the wizard there is no Aztech MDP 3900 V-W, there is only the Aztech MDP 3900V)

After choosing the MDP 3900V modem the phone tools appears & in the information window a note saying " No Device connected ,  answer machine is active " & the status button yellow, &  I tried to make a connection with the phone tools or to send a fax but of course it did not work & window appeared telling that " Hardware not operating Your call can not be completed now".
It seems as the Modem is not recognized by the phone tools or the window XP.

Your help & advice would be highly appreciated.
Many thanks

Lahalibo,
If you ran the installation as an upgrade, you should have uninstalled the old driver first. See number 2 below, copied from this page. You may want to try uninstalling all traces of the old driver and uninstall any modems listed in Device Manager, reboot the computer and see if it is recognized correctly. You may also need to uninstall/reinstall Phone Tools. You might want to consider backing up any files you want to keep and do a clean install of XP as this is usually the recommended method.

MDP 3900V-W
1) Windows XP already has an inbuilt driver (detected as "Dell Data Fax Modem"). Plug in the PCI modem, and the system will detect and install the hardware driver automatically without user intervention
2) For users who upgraded from previous OS, then you must first remove the old modem driver before upgrading to WinXP.
