Is there something that you aren't telling us? Did you just reformat and reinstall Windows before this problem started? Which make and model wireless network adapter do you have on your B130?
The laptop had an LCD problem so we sent it back to Dell for repair. My daughter (who is at college) told me the wireless hasn't worked since she got it back, now it's out of warranty.
When I put the service tag # in, it gives me the downloads for this system. I tried R151519.exe, R140747.exe, and R155386.exe which are the 3 listed possibilities. Is there some other way to determine which wireless card is installed because it's not listed under any of the system info I can find via XP.
The first thing to do would be to check to see if the Mini PCI wireless adapter came loose or was improperly installed during the repair. See the proper page from the Service Manual at:
If the card is firmly seated and the antenna wires are firmly connected, you need to figure out which wireless adapter is installed. Since Windows is not seeing it, Windows can't report what it is.
Note the listing you got on the downloads section only tells you the three possible cards that could have been shipped with B130s, the Dell 170, Dell 1470, Intel 2915, or Intel 2200 and is not specific to your system. You need to know which one of these is actually present.
You can go to the following site, enter the Service Tag number, then click on the Original Configuration tab to get a rather cryptic list of the parts shipped with your computer. It is usually listed in this inventory as "Circuit Card" with some numbers following (i.e. 1370, 1470, 2915, or 2200). The numbers give the clue as to which card is installed.
Steve, you nailed it. When I removed the cover, I saw right away that the wireless card was not installed in its slot properly. I seated it correctly, turned on the computer, and Voila! - works perfect.
