BCM Modem without answering machine capability

I recently reformatted and restored my Dimension 2400 Tag: 8H2JS31 running WinXP Home. Manufactured November 2003. Since then the BCM v92 modem (voice/fax) does not have the telephone answering machine capability. Now, I do not have a console, whereas before restoring it was a  "Fax/Telephone" BVR console window. Obviously, drivers did not get loaded on restore or I inadvertently added a wrong one.

I have deleted the modem through the device manager hoping on restart it would find the proper drivers from the installation disk, but it didn't, and it just reloaded the same program (modem only) as before. Maybe I have more problems than just a driver. Incidentally, the old fax wizard like the ones in earlier versions of Windows works and will send faxes from those programs. Any help in restoring the console would be appreciated. Thank you.  sam

Sammie5,

If you want the BVRP fax/phone console, you can install it from the modem driver CD that came with your system.  It is a separate program and is not actually a driver.

Sammie5,

Be sure that you have the modem driver CD in the CD drive.  It should auto-start.  From there, it should give you an option to install the BVRP software from a menu.

Thanks Steve, that's what I'm after, but, for whatever reason I can't get it out of there. I have even tried this instruction:

INSTALLING PHONETOOLS

To install PhoneTools on to your computers hard drive, first insert the media containing the program (diskette or CD-ROM) in the appropriate drive. If you install PhoneTools under Windows ® 95, Windows ® 98 or Windows NT™ 4.0 using the CD-ROM, an autorun setup program is started after a few seconds wait. If you work under Windows ® 3.1 or Windows NT™ 3.51, open Windows’ program manager and follow these simple steps:

1. Select Run... from the File menu.

2. Type A:\SETUP (or D:\BVRP if you are using the BVRP CD-Rom).

3. Click OK.

but I can not get it to run from that CD. I get a response of "Can't find it".

Do you have any idea of what icon I might click on the CD? Thanks again Steve, I appreciate the help.

Nope, it sure doesn't. That's the way that I thought it should go. But it absolutely will not auto start. I can find an icon for "auto start" in the CD and I can't even make that start. Funny but strange. I've been trying to get this to load all day. Must be some other problem. I'll keep at it. Thanks for your help, Steve.

Hey Steve I finally got Modem Helper loaded from the CD and it gives me 4 choices

1. Install Phone Tools

2. Install Modem Helper

3. View The Phone Tools Manual

4. View Modem Manual

Upon clicking on number 1 to install Phone ToolsI get a screen that says:

"Application Load Error" “Modem Helper Was Not Able To Load The Selected Application”

That’s all. That’s the end ...and ...must exit. No clue as to why. Maybe XP SP2 has something to do with it?

I honestly don’t know where to go from here…

Any more ideas?

Thanks for your help.  cho

Sammie,

Locate the "phone tools" (or BVRP) folder on the CD and double click the setup.exe file in it.

I'm sorry Steve, I have been through all of the dil's, utilities and all the files and folders on the disk and can not identify anything to do with BVR. Double clicked on most of them and they reloaded files that I already have on the hard drive. Appreciate your help but I believe I will just do without the program. If you can identify a specific file, I will try once more otherwise, I quit for now.

Thank so much! cho
