The BCM comes in both Voice Data Fax and Data Fax only. Can you check what you ordered? I may be wrong, but another easy way to tell may be just to pop your case. Look at the modem and see if there is a small cable from it to the motherboard. If so, that is probably the audio cable, which would mean it is most likely a voice data fax. If no cable, it is probably data fax only.

I use HotFax Message Center version 4.01. I do not have a voice modem. I use it solely for sending and receiving faxes. If you want to use the voice features (like answering machine), then you do need a voice modem.

And... your modem drivers are the most up to date available, so no update needed there.

Good luck.

I *think* Drivers and Utilities cd (if that is what you mean) has drivers for any modem Dell may use. You need to establish what modem you have, and then choose the correct driver.

I thought the telephony modem would have the audio cable (jumper), but I am  not a modem expert.

Maybe a better qualified person will see this and reply to you.

I was wondering about the modem too.  I sent a question with the subject Intel(R)537EP DFV Modem last night/early this morning.  I installed a telephony modem from Dell.  It has the BCM V92 on the CDROM, but it comes up as Intel.  I had to install 3, and only one installed correctly, the other two kept the old modem's configuration.  Could the wrong modem have been sent w/ the telephony software?

Also, is the telephony modem supposed to have the jumper? Because none came with jumpers just the modem, software for telephony, and a microphone.  I know someone who has the same PC, but not microphone yet it can record.
