Beginner with wireless technology. Have a question.

Hello. I am currently in college and own an Inspiron 8600 Pentium M/XP Pro, and no wireless cards or anything like that inside.   I am thinking about buying a wireless card, and my question is:   Would it be possible to connect to the internet on campus if I dont have a router? Seems like a stupid question, because I think I know the answer. I believe I can connect with the wireless card in my 8600 by the college's router.   I am asking this since I don't own a router and have been using dial-up connection.   Also, can you recommend some good models, since I've been reading mixed comments with Lynksis wireless cards. suggest you get an internal wireless card such as the dell truemobile 1350 mini pci card which is a b/g card. once you have wireless access then you can log onto your campus wireless hotspot.

I would suggest you get any brand name card that fits in the PCMCIA slot simply because the card is external for the antenna which means better reception.   Since you don't seem to care about internal network speeds, you could get a very good 802.11b card for almost nothing these days.
