Bluetooth after the fact.

I have a M170 and I would like to add the bluetooth option, but I don't want to have a dongle hanging out the side of the machine. Can this be done? Will the unit have to sent back to Dell, I don't want any warranty problems.

Thanks,
k

There is no problem adding an internal bluetooth card to this unit after you've received it and it will NOT need to come to Dell to put the part in. This part is considered a customer removable part. It is located on the left hand side of the battery bay. You will see a small screw on the left-hand side remove the screw and the plastic comes off revealing the compartment to where the bluetooth goes. The following link it the guide to the system and how to replace or upgrade parts this will help identify the location.
XPS M170 Service Manual

Now the next thing is to purchase the part. Here is a link to the Bluetooth 350 which will fit in that slot. When you look at the description it will not say the XPS M170, but this part will work.

Hope this helps.
