Bluetooth on a D600 doesnt work?
Hi!
Having a problem with the onboard Bluetooth device on my D600. All of a sudden I get the following warning on startup of the system:
My Bluetooth Places could not connect to the Bluetooth stack COM server (BtStackServer.exe)
When I answer this warning a error message the following message appear:
explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, (and the send report/dont send report buttons appear).
I have tried to reinstall all the drivers for the BT device, but it doesnt work!
What to do........???

When you call tech support, make sure you let them know that you have seen this issue talked about in their forum. The tech may even want to know the URL. Once I told the tech to look at the forum, he came back to the phone within a couple minutes and said he was sending a tech with replacement motherboard and BT card. It's somewhat of a poor design in the D600...the BT card kind of hangs off the front of the motherboard supported by the casing. Why the BT card couldn't be more like the wireless cards and lock into place is beyond me.
Best of luck with yours. Mine is up and working again.

I have had exact same errors and problems described in this thread. I called Dell Support and they sent out a rep with a new Bluetooth card which didn't solve the problem. The motherboard didn't recognize it and the rep ordered a motherboard (which means another delay and arranging another support visit). So be sure when you call to insist that the support people read this thread and that they replace both the motherboard and the bluetooth card.
Update (September 16th): My motherboard has been replaced along with the Bluetooth module and now a week later I am starting to see the same symptoms as before. Conclusion, it doesn't look like replacing the motherboard with an identical part is going to fix the problem (at least long-term).

It's just the MB. The connector on the motherboard is bad...BT card itself is fine.
Steffan, if you insist they will send both parts...they did with mine. Of course after the fact and when it happens again, I know it's just the motherboard that needs replacing.

HI,
I have a D600 as well (born Aug 20) and my BT has been acting funny from the first day. I cannot pair ANY device I have tried up to now. I know it's only been two (EPoX USB dongle and a Sony Ericsson T610) different devices, but since in both cases the other devices pairs my laptop it seems to be a dell issue.
Then just today, after a weekend of lots of travelling, my BT led (the blue one) has been flashing on and off all day.. at random intervals. Similarly, it disconnects from the network access on my other PC at random times.

I have had exactly this Bluetooth issue - I haven't even used Bluetooth, when suddenly (10 days after getting my Latitude D600, early Sep 2003) the machine starts constantly flashing up USB 'Device has malfunctioned' errors. Not fatal but very annoying & distracting.
This forum is very helpful in reassuring me that I don't need to reinstall the whole machine
I will ring Dell soon and see if I can get them out. Actually if I could only disable Bluetooth I'd be fine
Prospective buyers of the D600 - don't buy Bluetooth unle ss you absolutely need it!

well, it appears that Dell will EVENTUALLY give me a new BT card. Though it is VERY annoying that it is going to be a permanent thing.
Maybe we should ask to strike a deal with them: just gimme back my 30euros, take the card out of my machine and i will buy myself a WORKING BT PC-Card.
or maybe they can just replace the internal POS for a working pc-card one :S
regardless i am very upset! I have had my notebook for < 3 weeks and its 'broken' already!

Here are some news concerning my bluetooth problem. On Wednesday last week they tried to just renew the bluetooth module, because I already got a new motherboard. But it did not work. Although the blue led was on all the time, bluetooth was still broken. Then they told me, that I would get another (!) new board; a new revision. So today the changed the board and it now works. Hopefully not only for a few weeks. If it brakes again, I´ll get rid of my bluetooth card and want my money back for it. We´ll see... What about you?
Best regards

I got mine replaced a couple of weeks ago and it's "working" at this point. Still drops out every once in a while. If it brakes again, I will just demannd my 30 euros back and buy a PCMCIA BT card instead.. :/

Just to add my name to the list of bluetooth problems- !!
If you look back to page 3 of this discussion, you will see i asked what to look out for..and sure enough....Dell are coming out tommorow to fix the very very irritating flicking of bluetooth!!!!
Well, at least Dell are SUPPOSEd to be coming out tomorrow...There now seems to be a parts backlog with the motherboard - i wander why!????????!!!!!! I cant possibly think what could be the reason for this ;)
THe technician at Gold Support (o yes: DO invest in Gold- it REALY REALY is worth it) said the motherboard and the bluetooth both needed to be replaced as it is impossible to know what the problem is.
THanks for the resst of you- and hope your problems dont return!

Hi,
On my D600 the Bluetooth sw doesn't find the adapter and reports that the radio is off. When I check with XP Device manager there's nothing wrong woth the Bluetootth adapter and I can turn it on with Fn+F2. I have a feeling the the Bluetooth stack has not been loaded. How do I activate it if this is the case?

On a Latitiude D600 bought within past few months - this very same error!!
We're reporting it to Dell right now, but are these machines still going out with with this evidently well-documented fault?
Cheers
