Bluetooth Speaker Auto Switch

Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum even though this is my 4th Dell laptop and I have been loyal to Dell since 2005.

I am owner of XPS L502X and I have pretty powerfull machine with SSD and 8GB of RAM and operating on Win 7 home premium.

I have been having problems with Bluetooth speakers that I connect to my Intel Centrino N 1030.

First I bought Sony bluetooth speaker and it connected fine- Windows 7 would add it as speaker- not as a bluetooth headset. (example)

So basically while windows/bluetooth recognised bluetooth speaker as a speaker NOT A HEADSET, I was able to set is as default device and I would just turn on bluetooth speaker and windows would automatically select it as default speaker- hope you are understanding what I am trying to say.

then Sony started acting up and I thought It was speaker issue so I returned it- I also wasn't very happy with a sound quality.

Now I got new bluetooth external speaker with superb audio quality TDK A33 and I definitely want to keep this speaker but bluetooth issue is quite annoying.

First of all windows/bluetooth adds this device as "BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES" (example)

that means I cannot select this speaker as default unless it is being connected/active. IS THERE A WAY TO SWITCH THIS? so bluetooth can recognise it as speaker?

Also connecting procedure is quite annoying- this is what happens

I turn on my bluetooth speaker and I get this:

I.E. it doesn't want to connect- it does this for 5 min and no connection established- then I have to turn it off and I get this message

ok so I have to turn it back on and i have to quckly choose retry before speaker tries connecting itself otherwise I go back to step one- if i choose "retry" option quickly enough then I am able to connect.

so the problem is when I turn speaker off I have to go through same procedure over again.

I know with my old Sony speaker I didn't have that problem while bluetooth speaker was recognised AS A SPEAKER- NOT A HEADSET.

So I tried applying following solutions:

a) CLEAN INSTAL OF MY DELL following this link

http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_1A0C0937D62A8739E0401E0A55174744

b) installing most recent drivers for my Intel centrino 1030 FROM DELL WEBSITE

c) removing device, and adding it back

d) restarting my computer

I know the problem is in that Dell/Windows/Bluetooth/Intel dont recognise this speaker AS A SPEAKER, it is being added as headset device.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andre

Hi Paul,

actually solution to this problem is quite simple- I managed to solve the problem  after 253hrs and 14 nervous breakdowns.

Determine which network card you are using (I even bought new network card); go to intel website presuming that you have same network card as I did and download the latest drivers. Once you have the latest drivers on your hard disk uninstall all the drivers that are related to your wireless/Bluetooth card.

Then install new drivers BUT YOU MUST install Bluetooth drives first. This worked like a charm for me.

Now your Bluetooth speaker will auto connect....   blah blah- the only thing is that TDK by default will always be recognized as headphones- it's just the setting inside the speaker but no biggie.

Let me know if this helps.

Andre
