Hi Mira Elghanam,

To begin with we need to check if your system has bluetooth or not. Bluetooth is optional on this model. It depends on the type of Wireless Card your system came with:

Wi-Fi Options:Standard Dell Wireless™ 802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth Options:Optional Combo Dell Wireless Card 802.11b/g/n, BT3.0+HS"

Try to check Bluetooth icon (a capital B) in the icon tray at the bottom right of the screen (it may be hidden)? If so, is the "B" white, green or red? If there is no icon, it may mean that you need to install the drivers.

I am going to send you a private message and once you receive it, please click on my name highlighted in blue. On the next page, click the envelope icon and provide the Service Tag and contact number, so that I may access to your system records to check if your system has Bluetooth capabilities or not.

Please feel free to contact for further clarifications.

Hi Mira,

The Inspiron M5040 system is offered with half-height WLAN mini-cards in combination with Bluetooth. There is only one slot to install the WLAN/Bluetooth card and it is beneath the keyboard.

The Bluetooth option is available if the system was shipped with either of the following cards:

Wireless WLAN 1701 Half Mini-Card, 802.11 b/g/n + BlueTooth 3.0

Wireless WLAN 1702 Half Mini-Card, 802.11 b/g/n + BlueTooth 3.0.

Check in Device Manager under Network adapter to know what type of wireless/bluetooth card is installed.

If the system was shipped with any other wireless card, an external bluetooth adapter needs to be purchased.

Mira ElGhanam,

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID, if using XP, run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

Places to look to see if your Bluetooth Connection is enabled

Hi Ribikash10,

Welcome to Dell Community Forum.

When you purchase a Dell Computer, you can choose to configure and add/upgrade hardware and software components as per your requirement.

If you have opted to add the bluetooth option at the time of purchase, it would be included in the system configuration.

Hope this answers your query.

Let me know if further help is needed.

Thanks and regards,
