Bluetooth

Hello there...I'm trying to find someone that offer some assistance with my Dell installed bluetooth wireless software.  It can't be configured because the application locks up each time I go into the "Initial Bluetooth Configuration Wizard".  Has anyone else had this problem?  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I have the same problem. Just bought Inspiron 8600 w/Bluetooth 300 internal card in December 2003. Has message that BTTray.exe cannot open bluetooth stack service (or something close to this). When I try to to the Initial Bluetooth Setup Wizard, it freezes up every time. I have tried downloading the latest driver from dell, and reinstalling, and still the same problems. I even tried uninstalling the bluetooth software, and IT froze during the uninstall.

Any brilliant ideas out there? Thanks!!!!!

Dear Sir,

I have a similar problem: I receive the message in a dialog window with header BTTray and text : ERROR: Unable to start the Bluetooth stack service.

Have you found the solution meanwhile?

Thanks,

Best regards,

Bernard HERBERT

Yes I did fix it. I called Dell and they tried to help, but it did not work. They led me through many steps, but they missed a few things in their instructions for some reason. I finally fixed it by following these instructions (from instructions I found elsewhere, + some I had to figure out)

Download the latest A02 Bluetooth Driver from Dell (R65891.exe) at
http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&Category=0&OS=WW1&OSL=EN&SvcTag=&SysID=INS_PNT_P4M_8600&DeviceID=3122&Type=&ReleaseID=R65891

Uninstall the Dell Installed Firewall and Antivirus program and all components.

Remove the old bluetooth driver from your computer (Start, My Computer, View System Information, Hardware tab, Device Manager, click + by Bluetooth Devices, right click Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth Module, Uninstall)

Remove hard drive (To remove hard drive, follow instructions here:
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ins8500/en/8500/sm/hdd.htm#1123687 )

Remove bluetooth card (To remove the bluetooth card, follow instructions here:
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ins8500/en/8500/sm/blue.htm#1000550 )

Reinstall hard drive, and battery and reboot.
Shut down again.
Unplug power, and remove battery
Remove hard drive
Reinstall bluetooth card
Reinstall hard drive and battery and reboot.

When Windows says it has found new hardware, Cancel (do not let it find the driver)

Install the downloaded (updated) driver (R65891.exe) and it should install and bluetooth should work fine.

Then you can reinstall the virus software.

Now it works great for me, with MS bluetooth keyboard and mouse, which by the way was another pain to get it working--help here for that if you need it:

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice guys. I have exactly the same problem with my Bluetooth. I have asked Dell Support and they answered that I should contact my network engineer???!!!! My computer is only 3 weeks old and I do not think I am going to go through all that to fix it. I think they should it.

Thanks again

louckss i must say..i will not go thru all this trouble to fix only ONE bluetooth problem..my 9100 is new and i do NOT want to rip apart my harddrive and stuff..

THIS IS DELLS FAULT.

they should bring out a driver update to fix this..

if this is not resolved, i will return my notebook to dell and get full refund.

I had the same problem.  I followed the steps above and now my Bluetooth works perfectly.  Dell sent me another Bluetooth card, but even it wouldn't work until I followed the steps above.  MAKE SURE TO UNINSTALL ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL SOFTWARE even if the technicians don't think you should.

As a general update for all users having this problem...  McAfee Privacy service appears to be the conflicting program.  I have not contacted McAfee about this yet, so I don't have a final solution, however if you are running McAfee Privacy service, Bluetooth will not run correctly.
