joel8500,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Documentation for Dell products is available from the Product Manuals link on the main support page.  The user's guide for your BlueTooth card is here.

I  am having problems with my Dell TruMobile 300 Bluetooth.  I have tried unsuccessfully to get the bluetooth working on my new 8600. I get an error message on start up that the BTTray is unable to stack.
When I right click on the bluetooth icon and try to follow the wizard, It freezes on the general page and only a ctrl alt delete will get out of it.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth drivers provided by Dell (including the newer AO2 driver).

Also received the following error:
Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library
Program C:\windows\explorer
Pure virtual function call

My 8600 came with Windows XP Home and then I upgraded to Windows XP Pro.  Dell Support said that this was the problem and that the bluetooth can only communicate with XP Home.  Of course, now I can't uninstall XP Pro.

There must be some solution to this (other than "restoring" my 8600 to get back to XP Home (if that's possible))?  Anyone?

Hi BobT,
Thanks for the link to the Basic Operations for Bluetooth 300.
I have a wireless card installed in my computer too. Do the Bluetooth card and wireless 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card operate on the same antenna? I mean, do I have to have the wireless antenna enabled in order for Bluetooth to work? (By pressing Fn-F2?)

Also, the Bluetooth icon in my system tray has disappeared, again. If I right-click on the windows system tray and click 'properties', I can choose to display the bluetooth icon, even if it's disabled or inactive, but it still doesn't appear in the system tray. Any suggestions?

zb4runner,

Bluetooth works fine on my 8600.   I've used my iPaq 5555 and Nokia 3650.

I'm running Windows XP Professional (factory installed).

Hope you have it working already; but If I can help further, let me know.

AtlantaJoe,
Did you have to bridge a network connection between your wireless network and your bluetooth network to get bluetooth to work? If so, can you explain this process to me or tell me a link that explains it well?
Thanks!

Joel,

Here are the steps I take to activate Bluetooth.

  1. Turn Wireless ON ( Fn-2 )
  2. Bluetooth icon appears in the system tray
  3. right-click the Bluetooth icon and select "enable Bluetooth Radio."
  4. I don't need WiFi and Bluetooth working at the same time; so, I right-click the WiFi icon and select "disable radio."

Anything else I can tell you? Le'me know.

OK I am a fool and I know it!!

I have an inspiron 8600 with the internal bluetooth module and have deleted the registry key to start the bluetooth tray icon!  (I know I know...)

Can you give me the reg key in HKLM - software - microsoft - windows - current version - run that starts the app?

I have tried running the bttray direct but it does not work.  I havbe also tried manually creating a registry entry to the file:

C:\Program Files\Dell\Bluetooth Software\bttray.exe

but that did not work.  Do I need any other programes in the start menu or the registry in order for the bluetooth to work?

Many thanks for helping this idiot!

Got it sorted.  Re-installed it all from the driver CD's.

Works a treat!

Hi,

just read this thread as I can't get BT to work on my 8600.

So, are we saying that you can't have BT and Wireless running at the same time - it's either one or the other ??

Thanks in advance.

hi guys

well first of all i am from australia.

i just bought this laptop from www.dell.com two days ago.

i did a format and now it has a new fresh copy of XP pro on it

the bluetooth module "Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth Module" was working perfectly before i did the format.

but since i formated it and try to reinstall this with the "R77162.EXE" 20mb file downloaded from here http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&Category=5&OS=WW1&OSL=EN&SvcTag=&SysID=INS_PNT_P4_9100&DeviceID=3122&Type=&ReleaseID=R77162

it does not pick up my bluetooth module and while its installing it ask for that firmware file or something..then i just click cancel and then it wont enable my radio.. it just saids "make sure bluetooth is connected etc etc"

when i press the Fn+ F2 keys, the blue light DONT light up and it just beeps..

i uninstalled everything now and after i restart my notebook and when its loaded into windows, i press the fn+f2 keys it brings up "Found New Hardware Wizard" window i go through it and it CAN NOT pick up the drivers because that file i downloaded has not got the drivers it wants..

now when i double click on that file i downloaded now, it just saids

"bluetooth radio is turned off press fn+f2 to turn it on click ok to contirune installation" clicking ok just brings this same box back again..

so im lost here..

can someone tell me how i reinstall my bluetooth please..

please explain to me how i can fix this.. :(:(

email me asap or reply here

At one point Dell removed revision A03 (or possibly A04) from the downloads page for the Truemobile 300 Bluetooth. This particular revision contained a firmware upgrade for the TM300. From what I have gathered, many users had trouble with the firmware upgrade process and their bluetooth module was rendered inoperable. I personally never had a problem, and formatted several times having to use that particular set of drivers many times and thus sitting through the firmware upgrade process many times. I personally suspect people got to0 impatient (the process did take FOREVER) and turned their system off. Devices DO NOT like being turned off during a firmware upgrade.

In any case, Dell eventually replaced that particular driver release with the current release of A05 which does not contain the firmware upgrade. First, if you have unsucessfully tried using the A03 (or it might be the A04) driver release, try it ONE more time with that release and just let the laptop be. It may take a while (upwards of even 10 minutes) for the firmware upgrade to complete. In any case, after trying the A03/4 release, try the A05 release.

Other things to check:
- Ensure the bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS. It will not appear as "bluetooth" but rather just wireless.
- The Fn-F2 keyboard shortcut is NOT related to the 802.11x wireless but rather JUST the bluetooth.
- Bluetooth and 802.11x get along just fine and can be used simultaneously.
- Internet connection sharing is not necessary to connect two computers via Bluetooth LAN (a.k.a. PAN).

If you have any specific questions. Please let me know.

I only can see version A02 or A05 available for download now... do you recommend I try A02?

A02 shouldn't contain the firmware upgrade and is a much older version of the Bluetooth software. If you have never actually used A03/4 it is not necessary to use. Use the A05 release.
