Brand new wireless router doesn't work

hi

i have purchased a laptop recently and got a wireless D-Link router with it so i can have internet on both my desktop and laptop. but the router doesn't seem to work. it doesn't let either of the PCs to connect to the internet but i can connect to the LAN

i get "connected with limited access" on the laptop and same on the desktop. i tired router configuration by typing "192.168.0.1" but sometimes when i enter details such as ip adress and click apply it says "internet explorer cannot display the page"

then i tried again by entering that address but i can't even get into configuration now it just says "interr explorer cannot display the page"

is there something wrong with the router? and do i have to work offline in the internet explorer when i want to access the router settings. I run XP on the desktop and Vista on the laptop

really need help because i haven't connected by laptop to the internet since i got it

thanks in advanced

If you connect the laptop and the desktop to the router via LAN(ethernet)cable, can you connect to the internet, then? Are you running Windows Vista on both machines?

Hello,
You can make the network unsecure and then try and connect.
Second go to the network properties and then right click on the wireless network and then go to the properties.
clisk configure on the name of the wireless card and then click on the advance tab.
Look for some thing that says wireless and on the right hand side it will give you the option of changin the channel and now it must be 11, change it to 6.
Click on start and then go to run, type services.msc, look for something that says wireless, the status would be stopped, click on start then reboot the machine.
This will give the controls of the wireless to the Windows.
Try this and then let me know what happens.
