Broadcom 440x 10/100 driver problems

Question

After removing several viruses and doing a registry cleanup we cannot connect to the internet. Everything else seems to work fine. We have downloaded from the Dell site the driver for the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. We have tried to Uninstall from the Device Manager and then Scan for Hardware changes. The Broadcon 440 shows up, but when it tries to load the driver thru the wizard we get this error: There was a problem installing this hardware: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller Windown cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39) When we try to load the driver from the download from dell we get this: Click to Remove the Broadcom 440x IC from your computer. This should remove it and let us reinstall it. We then get this error msg: The wizard was interupted before Broadcom 440x 10/100 IC could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation at another time, please run setup again. Also the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel shows the Broadcom 440x and has a remove button, when we click remove it sgoes thru a routine and then says: Fatal error during installation. After searching the Broadcom website I came across a statement that say something to the effect that you should only remove the Broadcom 440 from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and if you try to remove it from the Device Manager it may not completely Romove it and cause problems. I think that is what has happened and there are traces of the drive on this PC and it will now not remove or allow us to reinstall a fresh driver. We are working on a Dell Optiplex 320 and do not have the disks for the drivers, etc. it is an older machine. We also contact support at Broadcom and they just say to Remove it from the Device Manager and reinstall...Even though their website says to remove it from the CP Add/Remove Programs. So they seem to be going against their own website? Any help would be appreciated.
