broadcom 57xx nic probs

plz someone help me out as i am getting really frustrated with this problem.i have recently bought a dimension 8400 with all the trimmings and have a 1.5mb cable connection to the internet thru ethernet, the problem is after about 20 minutes on gaming servers it seems to lose connectivity.this i could handle but to get the connection back i cant just repair or disable the connection i have to completely restart the pc.i have used the updated drivers dell recommends (7.86) but it still happens ,is this a problem of the board as it is an onboard nic or could it be a driver issue..would be gratefull for any feed back cos it is driving me mad ...thanks in advance

I don't have an answer for you but i do have what sounds like a similar problem with the same PC/NIC card.  My problem is that the LAN card seems to "go to sleep".

I connect to the internet (2mb connection) using a network cable from the LAN card on the PC to a BT Voyager 2100 router.  If I leave the PC on but without an internet browser open when i then go to connect to the internet, the page cannot be displayed, also I cannot connect to the routers configuration page. Like you I have tried repairing the connection and resetting the router. Neither of thses things work.  I have to restart the PC to get the connection back.

Any Ideas would be most welcome.

jammeruck,

While I doubt that your problem is a power savings setting problem, you might want to check it out anyway.  Open Network Connections and right click on the connection that uses your ethernet adapter.  Select Properties, then click on the Configuration button and then on the Power Mangement tab.  Remove the check mark next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.  If this doesn't solve the problem, you might want to purchase and install a cheap PCI 10/100 ethernet network adapter (they can be found for less than $10 these days) as troubleshooting step and see if the problem goes away.  If it does, that would seem to point to a faulty NIC.

milgo,

Your problem is probably due to the Power Management setting.  Follow the steps above.  Note that in the future when you have a problem that is different, even though similar, to a someone else's problem, it is best to start a new thread, rather than replying to an existing thread.  Trying to help with different problems in the same thread can get very confusing.  Thanks.
