Browser Timeouts Driving Me Nuts...

About 1 in 3 browser requests result in a "Network Timeout" or "Address Not Found" error.  I can then hit refresh or resend and I get instant connection.

I have two other computers on the network running XP (a desktop and a laptop) and neither has the same issue.  Only my new M1330 running Vista.  Does the same thing in MS Explorer or Firefox, so doesn't seem to be browser related.

Help!!??   How to troubleshoot?  Network troubleshoot says nothing is wrong, etc.

Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Thanks!

I had the same problem for 3 months and finally fixed it by upgrading my router firmware.  I also had slightly different problems on each computer.  The problem was by far worse on my M1330.  Just a thought.

I had the same problem with my XPS M1330 with Vista. I'm using a Belkin Wireless N F5D8233-4v3 (latest firmware) and almost every web page I visited I'd have to hit refresh to get the page to load. Two other laptops and one desktop running XP run fine and also three game consoles share the wireless connection without any trouble.

I've since installed a duelboot with XP and Vista64 and both OS's are fine, very rarely do I have to refresh a page. The driver page doesn't list XP drivers for the M1330 but all the drivers are available if you search the compatibilty list. Some you have to get from other dell laptops with the same hardware.

I love this laptop now, I just wish I didn't have to worry about the GPU going bang. I'm so disappointed in Dell for still selling faulty hardware even when they knew there's a problem. I don't think I'll ever buy Dell again sadly. I just can't trust them.

Thanks for the suggestion.  The GPU issue is news to me however, can you point me to more information about that?  (which GPU, Dell's response / support, etc.)?

Thanks!

Hi

I realise suggesting installing another OS is a bit extreme for what should be a simple fix. I never really tried to solve it because I always intended to install XP on this laptop, Vista64 has surprised me though, it seems much more stable than the 32bit version, or maybe I just had some buggy software with the factory install. Have you tried using the Intel proset wireless drivers from the Intel website and letting their software control your wireless adapter instead of windows? I did this for XP and i have not had any problems.

The GPU in question is the Nvidia mobile 8400gs (8600gpu also). Intel GFX option is fine. The original problem is with Nvidia's production process, it is rumoured that all mobile 8400/8600 chips are effected, Dell isn't the only manufacturer who have been caught out with this. I'd rather not post links to other sites but if you search google you'll find an unnerving amount of techs and forums that have been talking about it for the past year. Dell have, (officially?) extended a 1 year warranty limited to this GPU but seem to be content to replace faulty hardware with the same until your warranty runs out. There are some posts in this forum, just use the search. You can also read this Dell employees blog for a list of effected systems.
