BSOD when hooking up new wireless router

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 that is hooked to the internet by a broadband modem. I bought a new Dell laptop and wanted to set up a wireless network in my house. I first tried a D link wireless router and got a blue screen of death as soon as I plugged in the power to the router. I tried customer support and they said it was my computer. I said "sure it is" and then got a Netgear WGR614v6 router and the exact same thing happened. Then I tried hooking up the network with the new laptop and it works fine! Finally, I plugged it back into the Dell 4600 (2004 vintage) and got the bsod again.

BSOD Info Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0XD1
GRTDIMON.SYS

Would replacing my network card in my pc do any good or do I have to wrestle with Windows XP? Any advice?

Is your internet service from Comcast?  Did you previously install the Comcast secruity monitor.  If so, this is likely what is causing your problem.  You do not need to install any software for a cable modem (unless you are accesing it through USB) and it will probably mess things up when you change the type of connection you have (the software expects to see a modem, and you are connected to a router).  Either try uninstalling the software for Comcast, or call Comcast and see if they can suggest a way to fix this.

I wound up remaining the offending file, GRTDIMON.sys, which was a remnant from the Comcast Security software and that allowed me to use my router. Thanks for steering me in the right direction!
