Cable connection via router

Sorry I lost my question on the road and try again.

I try to connect the inspiron 1525 with vista home edition via router DIR-100 with my desktop with Windows XP all via cable not wireless.I installed all according instructions. They both can go to internet, but they don't want to talk to each other. My desktop recognizes the laptop but not visa versa. In the networkdetection I can't change adept to switch on. My question is the inspiron 1525 equipped for cable connection, or only for wireless connecting. Can any body help me and give me advice what can be wrong?

If the computer can get on the internet, then the network adapter is working.  I suspect that you don't have your firewalls configured to allow local network access.

Steve,

Thanks for reply. I switch off both firewalls on the computer only the router firewall is present. With the laptop I receive ping from router, but not from the desktop. From the desktop I assume ping is OK but data's disappear before I can read them. Any further suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Try booting to Safe Mode with Network Support and see if the problem occurs there.  If it doesn't then you know it a software problem (something that loads when Windows starts in Normal Mode).
