What kind of AP are you using, what brand? Instructions to disable DHCP should be in the instruction mannual for the AP. Please provide additional information regarding this issue.
Right-click on "My Computer" to get System Properties
Click "Computer Name" tab and check out "Full computer name." If it's some weird name that isn't even English, your cable ISP probably put it there.
Then open your router's configuration utility and paste your computer name into the "Host Name" field. Now see if you can enable DHCP and connect to the Internet through the router. That's what did the trick for my cable modem connection.
Thanks for all your help. Turned out it was the simple explaination; the cable modem giving out it's ip and the access point assigning it's own as well. I switched to a router instead, problem solved.

Check your PC's "Host Name," like so:
Right-click on "My Computer" to get System Properties
Click "Computer Name" tab and check out "Full computer name." If it's some weird name that isn't even English, your cable ISP probably put it there.
Then open your router's configuration utility and paste your computer name into the "Host Name" field. Now see if you can enable DHCP and connect to the Internet through the router. That's what did the trick for my cable modem connection.
