Can I do this with a VPN solution?

OK, I have a DELL Optiplex 260 at the office connected via a Bellsouth DSL connection. I have a DELL 8300 desktop at home connected via RoadRunner cable modem service. I want to be able to access the Bellsouth newsgroup servers at my office location from my home desktop? Can this be done? I'm thinking it has to be some sort of VPN solution, right? If so, any suggestion on what cheap VPN software I can use?
