i think the router is a linksys one. i know laptops need a wireless card but mine is a desktop. does it still need a wireless card? im guessing it does. And where do i put the wireless card? does it go into one of the slots in the back where all the cables go in? Cus there was one free slot wehre there was just a metal peice but i put a firewire hookup there...

more than likely the card will work fine ... the vasy majority of commercial products use the 802.11b standard

if it's near the router you can wire it in with ethernet cable (assuming the desktop has an ethernet card).  if it's not near the router then it will need to be a wireless adapter of some type (USB2 or pci)

Any combination of equipment will work, regardless of brand.  The only issue is if you run into problems using a different card than router, one company will point to the other as the problem.
